On Saturday, May 20th, 2017 over 350 volunteers from within and outside the church body turned out to care for and entertain over 170 special needs children and their 150+ siblings while their parents were blessed with an evening out on the town including a complimentary dinner for two.

Activities for the children included a hay ride, pony rides, hot air balloon rides, bounce house & slide, obstacle course, giant blow-up dartboard, petting zoo, video game truck, canvass painting, flower pot painting, picture frame painting, face painting, kids disco, punch-balls, fire truck, games, and more. Before and after dinner the kids were treated to snow cones, hot pretzels, cotton candy and popcorn while they took in a double-feature: “Sing” and “Moana”. Over 40 of the 170+ families were ‘first timers’ while the rest were returning guests from our 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 and/or 2010 events.

Local area restaurants including The Gladstone Tavern, Redwoods, The Long Valley Pub & Brewery, The Black Horse Tavern & Pub, The Publick House , The Lamplighter, Thai Kitchen, Domo7 , Giuseppe’s Trattoria, Piattino, and Cafe Azzurro, Dante’s Ristorante and Delicious Heights all pitched in toward treating the parents to a complementary dinner at the restaurant of their choice. Other area establishments including Uncle Gussy’s, Pizza Brothers, Chester Diner, Panera Bread and Dunkin Donuts all contributed toward helping feed the kids and volunteers. Representatives from Morristown Medical Center, Cultural Care Au Pair, St. Matthews Parish, Dance Innovations , Northern Hills Academy, and area high schools were among the many volunteers who teamed up with members of the Church of the Hills to spend quality one-on-one time with the kids. Generous donations from Reis, Inc., Savills Studley, Inc., and Xceligent, Inc., their employees, and members from within and outside the church body helped cover all of the evening’s expenses.

The parents were all smiles as they returned from their ‘date night’ to find their children having a great time – some just didn’t want to leave! Volunteers marveled at what an incredible blessing it was to spend quality time with these wonderful children. Thank you notes abounded after the latest events (see testimonials).
